Little did you know, holiday parties could be dangerous for your braces. In fact, certain party activities could break your braces brackets and wires and even promote dental issues. So, it’s important to care for your braces as much as possible as you gather with family members and friends. Our orthodontist, Dr. Joseph Wilson, is happy to help you by giving you the tips you need.

-Stay away from appliance-damaging foods: These foods could include caramel, apples, toffee, and other hard-to-eat and sticky foods. These foods can break your brackets and wires and affect the process of your orthodontic treatment.

-Brush and floss: Remember to brush and floss after you have eaten. This can help you prevent plaque growth on and around your braces and it can also help you prevent dental problems, like tooth decay and enamel erosion.

-Wear a mouthguard: Many people play high-contact sports and activities during their holiday parties. If you’re one of these people, wear a mouthguard. This can help you prevent oral injury if a hard, forceful object hits your mouth.
