Getting braces is a big step in life for those who need them. A lot of things in your life will change when you get braces, and not just where your teeth are aligned in your mouth. You’ll have a new diet to follow because there are certain things you can’t eat when wearing braces.

Some people find it hard to remember what is or isn’t safe to eat when wearing braces, and others aren’t sure where the line is. To help you keep your braces – and the rest of your oral health – in check, we put together this list just for you.

Anything sticky
One thing that you’ll hear from every orthodontist is to avoid anything sticky at all. Dr. Joseph Wilson gives that same advice, for the simple reason that it’s really easy to either break your braces, or get food stuck permanently in them. Popcorn
How could popcorn be a bad food for you when wearing braces? Well, everything else about it is safe except for the kernels. Those kernels can get lodged between teeth, or between orthodontic hardware and your teeth. If you don’t take the time to get those kernels out, you’re setting yourself up to create room for cavities to grow.
